Earthquake resistant structure plans of 2012

Earthquake is one of the most uncertain natural calamities that occur leading to a massive loss of human life and property. We may be scientifically quite advanced to reach the moon and even mars but we are way behind in finding a solution to the massive destruction that happens during an earthquake. When an earthquake occur the movement of the plates is quite less in terms of distance but the force generated is quite high which results in the massive destruction. In this section we will discuss what makes a building fall during an earthquake and what are the possible ways by which we can prevent this fall?
 Buildings fall during earthquake- why?
During an earthquake the ground moves like a series of shock waves in a similar manner as what happens when we throw a pebble in water. The ripples formed in the action can be used as an example to describe the series of shock during the earthquake. Such shock series or a sudden movement of the ground generates huge force which shakes the ground the building constructed above it. Mostly buildings are built in such a way that they carry their own weight. They can also carry some other weight and therefore badly built buildings are resistance to some up and down weights. However any building or structure cannot take side to side loads unless the construction had been made in such a way that it becomes earthquake resistance. During an earthquake the building or the structure is bound to take the side to side load and this causes the worst damage. Some poor constructed buildings tend to shake vigorously  in the first movement and if the shocks come in series then it will just worsen the situation. Some taller buildings tend to vibrate like a tuning fork during an earthquake.
How to make a building earthquake resistance
In order to make a building or a structure earthquake resistance we can take help of earthquake engineering. By using the earthquake engineering tips the buildings can be made in such a way that they can take the side to side loads. The roof, the floor and even the walls all must be made of light material. Lighter the material the chances of the building falling down in an earthquake are less. The walls of such buildings must be made in such a way that they go in parallel to each other in the same direction. They must also be strong enough to take the side way load. The wall, roof and floor must be tied to any frame and must be built in such a way that they can take have the strength to bear the after-shocks and they must not fall apart. Care must be taken that if there are diagonal bracing then to maintain the shock resistance the structure must be equal in all directions. It must also be strong enough to take eth tension as well as the compression.
These were just the basic concept regarding how a building must be made in order to make it shock resistance during an earthquake. Some engineers in the advanced countries have come up with more such modern ways to constructing a building to make it shock resistance during an earthquake.
